Derrick Jones
Derrick graduated from Forest Grove High School having lettered three years in baseball. He continued his education and baseball career at George Fox University as an outfielder. During his sophomore year, he continued playing outfield and took on a new role as the closer on the pitching staff. Derrick helped lead his team to its first National Championship in 2003. As a junior, Derrick became a starting pitcher and designated hitter where he was awarded 1st team All-American honors, as well as Co-Pitcher of the Year in the North West Conference. In his senior year, Derrick was awarded Player of the Year honors in the NWC and was tabbed the most versatile player in George Fox history. Derrick was nominated for Small College Athlete of the Year at the Oregon Sports Awards. After his senior year, Derrick signed a contract as a free agent to the Texas Rangers as a pitcher and played one season as a reliever before having shoulder surgery and ending his career. He currently works for Hassen Realty, as a residential broker and lives in Beaverton. He is assuming the duties of head coach of the returning 8th grade team who won the Oregon State Title in July 2008. Derrick is enthusiastic about his group, and is positive about their opportunity to repeat as state champions in 2009.
