Brian Pollard
Brian was born in Kirkland, Washington, but grew up in the Portland area. He is a 2000 graduate of Westview High School in Beaverton, Oregon. During his four years as a Wildcat, Brian was a 3-sport letterman in football, basketball, and baseball. He played varsity baseball for the Wildcats for three seasons as the shortstop under Coach Jeff Shull, and was part of the back-to-back Metro League Championship team in 1999 and 2000. He and Greg Cero played together for three years along with standout team members Trevor Crowe, 1st round draft pick of the Cleveland Indians and Mike Davies, 7th round pick of the Colorado Rockies.
After graduating from Westview, Brian began his college career at Lane Community College in Eugene, Oregon where he played under Coach Donny Harrel, an eventual Pac-10 Conference coach with Oregon State and University of Washington. Brian was instrumental in Lane’s Southern Division Championship in 2003, where he received All Conference designation as a sophomore. After completing his two-year degree, Brian moved to South Dakota where he attended Dakota Wesleyan University in Mitchell with a baseball scholarship. He was the two-year starter at shortstop and graduated in 2005 with a degree Sports Marketing and a minor in Business Administration. In his two years at DWU, the Tigers won the GPAC Conference Tournament in 2004 and 2005 and were the regular season champions in 2005. Brian holds the all-time Dakota Wesleyan record in infield assists with 317. He was named Honorable Mention All-GPAC and voted Best Defensive Player of the year in 2005 as a senior. Brian was part of the team that broke 20 school records. During his last season with the Tigers, Brian was shown interest from organizations such as Minnesota, Oakland, and Florida.
After coaching 2 years with 13-year-old Babe Ruth teams in South Dakota, Brian and his wife Melissa returned to Portland last fall. Melissa, who also attended DWU, was a standout softball player with the Tigers. Brian currently works in the front office of the Portland Beavers and Portland Timbers organization.
